Many of us have been praying for CFOers in Kashmir because of flooding there. I invite you to continue praying!
Below is a letter from Grace Paljor of Kashmir, written to Johnson Thomas, our CFOI President-Elect. You saw Grace on the front page of the September CFOI Newsletter. She and her family are staying in Delhi as they wait for the flood waters to recede.
We are safe by God’s grace and His unfailing mercy. Early on 7th September the river ‘bund’ (built to contain the river in spate) breached at several places flooding the entire city. Within a few minutes the flooding river engulfed the ground floor of the house and the first floor.
As the water rushed we managed to get food supplies and drinking water and gas stove to the top floor. All day the water kept rising inch by inch until it reached about 2 feet short of the 2nd floor (almost 20 feet). There was no sign of any rescuers for two days.
On the third day a ladder came by our house and got caught among the trees. Jonathan (our son) had a built a raft out of styrofoam (packing material) curtain rods and the CFO banner! He paddled his raft and got the ladder just in time for the first boat that our school janitor had somehow managed to arrange to get us to dry land.
Our city is in shock and suffered extensive damage. As winter is closing in there is not much time to prepare. The water is taking very long to recede and endangering the structure. Do pray for the safety of the houses and the courage to start all over again.
In Him,
Grace
