‘Connections’ Farthest Out

A MESSAGE FROM CFOI PRESIDENT, JOHNSON THOMAS: Perhaps one of the mightiest things I have enjoyed throughout my time in Camps Farthest Out is the extraordinary “Connections Farthest Out.” To “keep connected” is the antidote for this present pandemic outbreak. These days, while apart from many, my morning walks outside our home in Florida, USA, seem to connect me more with nature. It is as if I am in the garden of Eden with no one around but just my loving Eve. As I look around deeply everything seems to connect with me and I with it, that I may know I am not alone. The sky above looks bluer now with a rich hue to relax me. The trees are joyfully swaying in the cool breeze to welcome me along the way. I hear the birds singing sweet melodies that sooth me. I see fish inviting me to dance as I look into the calm lakes.

Creation expresses its wonders in a way I have not noticed before… so amazing, so fascinating, causing me to praise my almighty Creator a little more than before. But, sometimes, a sort of emptiness creeps in as I long for the communion I enjoy with God’s people. I wonder whether the social distancing is becoming social isolation. Then I remember what I have learned in CFO and the Holy Spirit convinces my soul to quiet down, cheer up, and know that the love of Christ sustains me and that God is the source of all connections — to God, to people, to nature– and that we are never alone! Hallelujah!! Amen!!! The flavor of the creation led to its fullness with the creation of man as the crown of creation, a being, created in God’s Own Image. God connected man to nature (Gen. 2:15), He connected man to woman (Gen. 2:22), and they all connected back to Him through His Son Jesus Christ (John 15:22-23).

We are all connected to each other in Jesus Christ no matter the social distancing we are experiencing now. In Faith let us bind ourselves in the word of God as it is written “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any power. Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
